I do not own a television but am looking to buy one. I do not have cable, or dish.?

Do the new HDTV's let you get a signal, using an antenna? If I get an HDTV, do I need any special wires to connect my dvd/vcr player to it? Also, I was looking at tv's that you can get internet signal's with. Are these any good? What all is involved with them? Thanks for any advise!
