Can I use a Nintendo 64 through a Motorola cable box?

I've tried changing settings and pressing buttons but nothing really happens. I'm not sure if this is actually possible but I can't hook the nintendo directly into the tv. I use to have a VCR and this little adapter but they were both lost in our recent move.
