VCR says "service" any useful info plz?

my VCR says "service" after trying to eject a tape. please if you know anything about VCR's still help! its an old zenith from the 90's but its worked perfectly until now. theres still a tape inside ide like to recover and seing as how you cant just go out and service a VCR or call up a company thats out of business ide do w/e jus to get the tape besides axe, hammer, machete!
