My Tv (tube type), does not support the tivo box connection?

I was running the tivo box through my VCR, which since a recent storm no longer seems to remain powered on.... I thought maybe now I could use my dvd player as the medium source, however I can not get the cords right or the picture in. I don't know if my DVD player has what it needs to support the connections of the tivo, just as the tv does not? My provider tivo site did not answer this connection question, and when I call in for tech support....I need to brush up on my Mandarin. Might someone be able to make this easy for me? Thanks, Gabby
