Usind cam chorder cable?

i want to copy my VHS tapes to hard disc and transfer on to CD/DVD as my records. the soft ware /hard ware i search is not available near by. Hence i would like to know whether i can use cable that is used in cam chorder. One end to PC and other end cut off present socket and solder the leads with rca cable sockets in VCR using extension cable/or other wise. can some make a suggestion . i do not have cam corder but cables only i have.
